Meet the Steahlys, Powell Family of Four

Sometimes the seed of a love story starts early! Megan and Mark grew up together in Powell and were even in some grade school classes together. It wasn’t until they worked together at a summer camp many years later that they hit it off, though.

Megan attended Miami University in Oxford where she studied Early Childhood Education, then got a Masters Degree from National University. She is a third grade teacher with Hilliard City Schools who enjoys reading, traveling, sunshine, and watching the Bachelor on Monday night with her “Monday Night Girls” (aka college friends). Megan is a supporter of RSRT, which supports Rett Syndrome Research Trust and she also supports Let’s Flamingle For A Cure, which is raising money for a cure taking place on July 18th at the Bogey.

Mark proposed with a surprise trip to Atlantis in 2011 and the couple was married the following summer. They wanted a unique venue and ended up getting married and having the reception at Huntington Park. It was perfect in every way. That same month the Steahlys closed on their home in Powell and have loved creating a family together in the community where they grew up.

Megan and Mark have been very blessed with their pregnancies. With Jacob they had been trying for a few months and Megan was getting a little tired of only seeing one pink line. One evening she took a pregnancy test, saw one line, and figured it was another negative. Apparently she hadn’t thrown the test away because when Mark later went to get ready for bed he noticed the test on the vanity and saw two pink lines. He immediately woke Megan up and it wasn’t until they heard the heart beat 8 weeks later that she truly believed it was positive! Megan says waiting until the 12 week mark to share the news with family was very hard!

Megan labored at the hospital for about 7 hours and their first baby, Jacob Morrell Steahly, was born. He is now 3 years old and loves to talk and play with his little sister. He also likes riding his scooter and has a love for construction trucks. Jacob has done a wonderful job transitioning into the big brother role.

Emilia Ann Steahly was born on Christmas Day. Megan was in denial and put off going to the hospital as long as possible. They were at the hospital for less than 3 hours before Emilia was born. At 2 months old, Emilia adores her older brother and enjoys snoozing in the car and melts all of their hearts with her smiles!

As a teacher, coming up with names is hard because there are connections to so many names. Mark and Megan knew they wanted to go the more traditional route. Jacob was simply a name they both liked while Morrell is my Megan’s middle name and her mother’s last name.

Emilia was a name they both agreed on while vacationing in California last summer. Ann is Megan’s mother’s first name. Both Mark and Megan really liked the sound of the two names together.

Mark and Megan say it takes a village! They are so very grateful for family, friends, and wonderful caregivers that have helped them get this far with their precious children.

It was been such a pleasure capturing so many wonderful moments for this family. Jacob was my first posed in-home session and it has been a joy watching the Steahlys grow!
